1. Meaning of Aqeeqah
Ubaid Ashumu’I and Zamakhsyari has revealed that according to language, aqeeqah means hair that grows on the baby’s head since birth. Imam Ahmad is of the opinion, that aqeeqah comes from the word ‘aqqa which means cutting or splitting. This opinion is strengthened by Abdul Barri.
While according to Al-Khattabi, aqeeqah is the name given to the slaughtered goat for the interest of the baby. It is named so because the goat will be cut and be divided. Ibn Faris also mentioned that aqeeqah means slaughtered goats and shaven hair of the baby’s.
